Metis Lighthouse: Web site and 360° photos for the centenary (10 septembre 2009)
The 100th anniversary of the Metis Lighthouse was celebrated this summer. To make this building more widely known, Heritage Lower St. Lawrence financed a Web site produced entirely by Bcom. The site allows to explore the lighthouse virtually by way of 360° photos and by a traditional photo gallery. There are also historical texts and testimonies from lighthouse keeper descendants. The virtual tour allows to view all the storeys and the interesting nooks of this historical building. Video information capsules were integrated in six of the eight 360° photos to explain the various aspects of the lighthouse, its mechanisms and its history. The Web site, produced by Alexander Reford and Paul Gendron, allows Internet users to submit comments. Alexander Reford, a historian, and Paul Gendron, a grandson of a lighthouse keeper, are the authors of the publication “The Metis Lighthouse” (available on the Web site). You may sign a petition on line to have the lighthouse declared a historic building in 2010, which classification would allow to carry out preservation work.
